4 STEPS to Prevent Falls and Stay Fall-Proof

  Speak Up.

            • Talk openly with your healthcare provider about fall risks and prevention. 
            • Have your pharmacist review your medications annually and work with your physician to make adjustments as needed.

  Keep Moving!

            • Continue with an exercise program to address strength, power, flexibility, endurance, and balance.
            • If you don’t currently have an exercise routine, start one!

CDC Recommendations

  Get an Annual Eye Exam.

            • Replace glasses or contacts as needed.
            • Consider single vs. multifocal lenses.
            • Screen for eye diseases and consider switching or reducing medications which affect vision (e.g. anticholinergics).

  Make Your Home Safer.

            • Clear paths of clutter, cords, and loose rugs.
            • Secure pets that may walk near you as you walk.
            • Ensure adequate lighting.
            • Get a full evaluation by a licensed occupational or physical therapist who can provide specific safety recommendations for your home.
